Each sea turtle is carved from fossilized walrus tusk ivory, a prized natural material that is some 500-3,000 years old. The walrus tusk has lain underground for most of its life where minerals give it its earthen hue. Native peoples gather this fossilized ivory after erosion and the tides unearth it, and it is used the world over in fine jewelry pieces such as this one and other handmade works.
The three sterling silver rings at the end of this bracelet make it adjustable from 7 to 8 1/4 inches, enabling most women to wear it at varied lengths.
