Fossilized Walrus Tusk Sea Turtle Family Necklace

Our sea turtle family necklace is itself a paradox. This seemingly natural scene doesn't really occur in nature. Sea turtle mothers lay their eggs in the sand, leaving their young to hatch and make the heroic scramble for the sea alone. In fact, the sea turtle spends most of its life alone - these wise and benevolent creatures are rarely seen together unless mating.

A sea turtle family in the classic sense, then, is a figment of our imagination - but it makes for a charming carved ivory pendant! Our designers used fossilized walrus tusk ivory to bring out the turtle's shells, and each shell is hand carved with spiral and stipple designs. This silver sea turtle necklace is an ideal gift for any woman who feels a strong kinship with these gentle creatures and a strong bond with her own family.

Fossilized walrus tusk ivory has lain in the earth some 500 to 3,000 years where minerals color it a soft caramel to deep cocoa hue. Erosion and the tides bring it to the light once more, and native peoples gather it for trade or sale. This fossilized ivory is prized the world over for its singular quality and the age-old story it tells.

Pair our sea turtle family necklace with our sea turtle earrings for a complete set!
