A sea turtle's journey from egg to ocean is an impressive migration to say the least. After several decades at sea, a female sea turtle will eventually return to the same beach where she was born. There she digs a hole in the sand, lays her eggs, and heads back out to sea. This pendant is a powerful tribute to the cycles we go through in life and the courage it takes to plunge into the unknown.

  • Hand carved ancient mammoth ivory turtle

Sea turtles emerge from eggs buried in the sand and immediately embark on a solo journey across the beach and into the ocean water. With no parent to teach them what to eat, where to go, and what to do, these impressive creatures find a way to thrive. The odds are stacked against them, however. Due to predation, pollution, and poaching, on average only 2 of 1000 turtles will reach reproductive maturity. Our jewelry designers selected mammoth tusk ivory for the turtles' carved shell. This prized material is over 15,000 years old, and, like the sea turtle, it has spent part of its life buried underground. The earth colors the mammoth tusk, which is valued the world over for the unique contribution it makes to carved ivory earrings or other artisanal works.
