This gorgeous geisha necklace or pin from our celebrated geisha jewelry collection depicts the artist with her shamisen in ancient ivory detailing and intricate sterling silver patterns.
Many conflicting opinions exist as to what a geisha truly is. Everyone agrees, however, that she is most certainly an artist, a woman in enviable command of the revered fine and aesthetic arts she practices. Geisha are wonderful dancers, flower arrangers, and tea ceremony experts. Many were and are accomplished musicians, as depicted in this geisha necklace that shows her gracefully playing the shamisen.
Our designers have used two types of ancient ivory in this geisha pin/necklace. Both ivories have lain in the earth for centuries, and both are highly prized in jewelry or artisanal art pieces. The geisha's face is carved from ancient mammoth ivory, a piece of antiquity from an amazing animal long since extinct. The shamisen body is carved from deeper colored ancient walrus ivory that is gathered up by Native peoples after erosion and the tides uncover it.
This geisha necklace is fitted as a pendant and also has a pin backing so that it can be worn both ways. She is a bewitching addition to the Zealandia geisha jewelry collection with her far-seeing expression and graceful pose.
