Paua Jewelry ' Ancient Ivory and Garnet Butterfly Necklace

The butterfly is a gorgeous representation of transformation. This remarkable life change inspired our designers to create a piece that would remind the wearer of the power we all hold within ourselves for change. Transformation truly begins from within, and our jeweled butterfly is a visually captivating symbol of its owner's inner power.

Our designers chose complementary natural materials to adorn our jeweled butterfly necklace. Her lower wings are accented with multi-colored New Zealand paua shell. Paua is from the variegated inner lining of the New Zealand paua (a type of abalone), and it is a highlight in all our paua jewelry.

Polished black mussel shell forms a striking contrast to the sterling silver that outlines our butterfly's upper wings. Black mussel may contain hints of warmer colors, and it is these warm undertones that bring out the fiery red in our center garnet stones.

The butterfly's lower abdomen is made from hand carved fossilized mammoth tusk, a prized material that is over 15,000 years old. Centuries in the earth or permafrost have preserved the mammoth tusk's creamy luster or colored it warm caramel to soft cocoa colors. Mammoth ivory tells a story of ancient times when these beautiful beasts still roamed the earth. It is a focal point in many of our carved ivory pendants.
