Ancient Mammoth Ivory Lotus Necklace in Silver

The lotus flower is a revered symbol in both Buddhist and Hindu traditions. This intrepid bloom grows from the murky, muddy depths to flower each day in perfect purity. Gautama Buddha left lotus blooms everywhere he stepped as a symbol of his enlightened state. Hindus associate their entire pantheon of gods and goddesses with the pink lotus flower, a symbol of divinity, beauty, and life itself.

The lotus offers its sublime shape as inspiration for our mammoth ivory lotus necklace. Its symmetry and the opening bloom make it one of the most visually delightful silhouettes we know. As a carved ivory pendant, the center is highlighted with an ancient mammoth ivory accent that tells a story older than even the most ancient lotus legend.

Our fossilized mammoth ivory is over 15,000 years old, dating back to when the last of the great mammoths roamed the earth. It has spent the vast majority of its many years buried in permafrost or underground. It retains much of its original pale creamy luster if buried in permafrost, turning a warmer more earthen caramel shade if buried underground where it is exposed to minerals. Touching a piece of mammoth ivory reminds us of a bygone era and of the transience of life.

Wear our lotus necklace in silver and mammoth ivory with our coordinating ivory lotus earrings for a complete set!
