    Hummingbird Pendant with Garnet

Our hummingbird collection celebrates the grace, the whimsy, and the charm of these tiny birds. Hummingbirds are resourceful when it comes to choosing their nesting sites, a task done only by the females. The nest is built from a vast variety of materials: some of the most common are leaves, bark, feathers, fur, cotton, and hairs. Materials are secured with spider web silk; the sticky web helps bind the nest together and its elasticity allows the nest to slightly expand as the babies grow. Sounds like the work of magic fairies! The female works for days on nest construction and will finish the outside with lichen or moss to help camouflage her babies. This hummingbird pendant is inspired by that poignant maternal attention and love.
The hummingbird in this pendant is hand carved from fossilized mammoth ivory, which has lain buried in the permafrost for tens of thousands of years. Fossilized mammoth ivory is a finite material and prized for its soft cream color that makes it ideal for fine jewelry. Wear this pendant with our Heart Song earrings for a dazzling set.
