The Gaia necklace and pin from our silver goddess jewelry collection depicts the mythical earth mother in her element, set into hand worked sterling silver and finished with carved ancient ivory.
Our fossilized ivory goddess necklace is inspired by Gaia, the Greek goddess of the earth. As one of the four elements born at the dawn of creation, Gaia is the earth mother and so mother to all creatures. She is often represented as a beautiful, mature woman who is ripe with fertility and creativity—a true maternal force that has produced the abundance we know and enjoy.
Our Gaia necklace is the most grounded of the deities who grace our silver goddess jewelry collection. Zealandia designers sought to place Gaia in her element and so she is depicted here as emerging from a mountainous landscape that doubles as her dress. Her hair cascades down as natural foliage rendered in gleaming sterling silver. Her strong features are carved from a very earthen material—fossilized mammoth tusk—lending this pendant or ivory pin a luminous look befitting a goddess.
Gaia's face is hand carved from fossilized mammoth tusk, which is over 15,000 years old. The mammoth tusk has spent many centuries buried in permafrost or underground where it is colored a warm caramel hue. Mammoth ivory takes us back in time to a bygone era, reminding us of these great creatures who once roamed our lands and of the irrevocable impermanence of life.
Our Gaia necklace also features a pin back, making it a versatile piece of goddess jewelry you can wear both ways.
