Fossilized Mammoth Ivory and Rainbow Moonstone Earrings Are you the type to climb a tree in a storm to get a better look or would you rather be inside under a blanket? There's something electric about storms, whether you love them or would rather leave them, the energy in the air is undeniable. These graceful earrings were inspired by a thunderstorm that rolled in on a hot summer night, bringing with it a much needed deluge of rain on the valley.
The top stone is a square faceted rainbow moonstone, attached to embellished sterling silver that holds a piece of ancient mammoth ivory. The mammoth ivory was buried in the ground for over 15,000 years. Long after the mammoths went extinct, this prized material was excavated to be carved into heirloom jewelry.
